Well, I actually agree with you to an extent. I do think that people who go to those parades end up projecting a specific image that non-involved gays (i.e. the target audience) end up associating with all gays, lesbians, bisexuals, etc. A lot of the time it seems like the message being interpreted is that we are hedonistic and unapologetic, in which you are right, it is completely detrimental.
All this being said, being at LSU for two semesters now I know plenty of wonderful “normal acting” LGBTQ individuals who advocate in a way that doesn’t resemble Decadence Fest in New Orleans (Which most of us are horrified at, to be honest). They work with state legislatures and hold events in order to try to draw attention to and pass laws for social change.

Calling them into attention with legitimate discussion is fine. It’s wonderful, in fact. Parading around in a feather boa or a leather thong is pointless, no matter how many times you claim it’s for your rights. Doing it in such a way that everyone thinks we’re all like that and slapping some fraud philosophy on it would be offensive, except people like me have already disconnected ourselves from your whole movement and purpose.
Be rid of your gay privilege, which means: quit thinking that your sexuality changes reality for you.
I never said dressing in absurd costumes and skimpy clothing was productive to the cause; if you knew me at all, which it is apparent you don’t, you would know that I don’t go to gay pride parades or engage in that kind of outlandish behavior.
To assume that you know how I behave and think is reductive, and your personal attacks are unwarranted and childish.
